Filling our hearts with Jesus' love

I recently revisited Cindi Mc Menamin’s  book ‘Letting God Meet your Emotional Needs’ and was reminded and of the many core truths which, if were practised by women, there would be much less suffering and less abuse of women, as many would not stay in compromising situations. We, as women, are wired to give and receive love and nurturance. Devotion is in our nature, although all too often it goes to the wrong end.  If we have been in turmoil because of another’s rejection, abandonment, betrayal or even abuse, this book teaches us that Jesus is actually the best partner there can be, One whose love cannot fail and One that has chosen us. If we are open to receive and feel His love (and it takes some work to clear our souls and minds enough so that we can feel this love), then it doesn’t matter what another person did or didn’t do or could have done. We don’t need to figure it out for another, we don’t need to go into rage for what they didn’t give, we don’t need to go into longing for what they could have given. We don’t need to prove, fix or explain anything to anyone. All we need to do is open ourselves to His invitation to receive His love, which is the highest, purest, deepest, most fulfilling and genuine love there is. Why would we need to waste a moment longer over turmoil about a  human being’s failing love or lack of it? We need no one’s permission or mediation to access that love (despite the fact that some men think they are above Jesus for their partners or that only through male help could women access God). Yet, as sovereign human beings, God’s love is accessible to us all, as long as we do the hard work of clearing our hearts from the splinters of guilt and separation that prevents us from feeling it. Even if nothing happens again in our personal lives, even if we don’t receive the human love that societal judgment regards as necessary, we know in our hearts, we are lovable and loved by the best partner there can be  and in this awareness,  our life is a life well spent.
